Applications are now open for the2018 Elagupillai Vijayaratnam Education Scholarship.
The Elagupillai Vijayaratnam Education Scholarship is a one-off scholarship for a Tamil-Australian student who lives in the Strathfield electorate, and displays a commitment to their local community and their own education.
The scholarship recognises the significant role played by the late Mr Vijayaratnam to the Tamil-Australian community, particularly in the local Strathfield area. Mr Vijayaratnam had a vision of a fairer, more tolerant society and understood the power of education in reaching those goals. He worked tirelessly to have the Tamil language included in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) syllabus, and was a strong supporter of the Tamil Study Centre at Homebush.
Applicants must respond in 500 words outlining reasons why they deserve the scholarship.
Applicants must be in their last year of high school or currently studying at university or vocational training. Students must also provide two reference letters from referees.
Applications open on Monday 13 August 2018 and close Friday 5 October 2018.
