The Berejiklian Government’s infrastructure budget has been exposed as nothing more than smoke and mirrors with budget papers revealing that more than $20 billion of infrastructure projects are completely unfunded.
Despite the Premier crowing about NSW being a ‘state of infrastructure’, today’s budget has revealed that’s not the case.
Not a cent has been promised for the Western Metro rail project that the Premier said would link Parramatta to the CBD to deal with the area’s booming population. In fact, it hasn’t been mentioned once.
In another blow for Parramatta, the Light Rail Project has too been left stranded with just a paltry $25 million allocated in planning money.
Meanwhile, the budget reveals more than $20 billion in unfunded infrastructure across the F6, Western Harbour Tunnel, Beaches Link, Outer Sydney Orbital and Western Metro.
At the same time, a whopping $80.2 million has been snatched from commuter carparks and local train station upgrades.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Roads and Transport Minister Jodi McKay
“The Premier likes to make these grandiose infrastructure promises but when it comes to crunch time, they’re left unfunded in the budget.
“This Liberal Government is blatantly short changing the people of NSW by failing to commit to what they promised and stumping up the funds needed for these projects.
“Why does the Government talk up their surplus when in reality they’re not committing the funds to constructing these projects- but they’re still happy to pocket your cash in tolls.”
