GRAPHIC commercials like the Grim Reaper AIDS advert from the ’80s would be used to shock drivers into doing the right thing under a plan by Roads Minister Duncan Gay.
Mr Gay told The Daily Telegraph he wanted to launch an advertising blitz in 2017 to “get into the minds” of idiot drivers.
He revealed a government pledge to spend less on advertising had hindered road safety messaging. But he said that with the state’s road death toll rising — with this year on track for almost 400 drivers killed — he wanted to rectify the situation.
Opposition roads spokeswoman Jodi McKay said the government had “for too long” focused on the use of speed cameras to try to reduce the road toll.
