Inner West Bus Privatisation
In May last year, the NSW Government announced the privatisation of Inner West Bus services.
This was a blatant attempt by the Government to flog our local buses off to the highest bidder.
Population growth in NSW demands increased public investment in transport services. Tens of thousands of new residents have moved into the Inner West over the past decade, and selling off our assets is not the way to improve services.
Labor launched a petition in direct response against this decision and I thank the thousands of people who signed and shared our petition.
Despite reaching over 10,000 signatures and after an extensive debate in Parliament, the Government announced that it will still go ahead with the privatisation of Region 6 Buses.
This is a slap in the face for Inner West residents whose opinions and concerns were blatantly ignored. To add fuel to the fire the Minister for Transport Andrew Constance skirted around the edges in his announcement of the new private operator of these buses - Transit Systems. You can read my response to his actions here.
Once again i thank all those who signed and shared this petition. Despite the outcome I will continue to fight for fair transport services in the Inner West.
